Durafilter Crushed Glass Filter Media for Swimming Pools.

Durafilter is produced in the U.K. from recycled glass, manufactured and graded for specific use in swimming-pool filters. Non-toxic, sharp-free and non-hazardous, it is totally safe for filtration use and conforms to British Standard PAS102. Traditionally, quarried sand and gravel materials have been the main loading used as filtration media for swimming-pools; however, it has now been clearly shown that crushed glass is a far better alternative media, yielding better water clarity and quality. Unlike pool-quality sand, which is a finite natural resource, Durafilter crushed glass media is a highly sustainable product manufactured from recycled material without causing any extraction damage to the environment. Independent studies by leading experts, combined with practical trials, have shown suitable crushed glass to be a highly effective and efficient filtration-media producing much better and clearer water quality. Additionally, by greatly minimising bacterial contamination within filter units, it can also provide a much improved pool-hall atmosphere. The use of Durafilter, combined with possible reductions in power, water and chemical usage due to improved filtration efficiency, will also contribute towards any Carbon Saving, Cost saving or Sustainable Product targets that may be relevant for any pool operator.

Durafilter is manufactured in three grades and can be safely used in all types of swimming pool filter. Grade 1 is equivalent to 16/30 sand and forms the main and topmost layer of all installations. Grades 2 and 3 form the support layers over the underdrain systems, either Grade 2 only or Grade 2 + Grade 3 according to the type and size of each filter unit. In some cases an initial gravel bed may be required to cover some laterals. (see installation guide).

Durafilter Useage

Durafilter is supplied in 25kg bags and palletised 40 bags (1 tonne) per pallet and we also service smaller requirements. There are no restrictions as to the type and size of filter-units that can benefit from Durafilter installation.  Some of the main benefits that can be derived, subject to operational practises, are:

Improved water-quality; Cost savings;  Energy savings; Water savings;

For GRP filters, of the type and size mainly used in private pools, health clubs, spa units and similar water leisure locations, an all-Durafilter loading can be installed to yield maximum benefit and cost savings. For steel-filter units as mainly used in leisure centres and the larger commercial pools operated by local authorities or leisure management organisations, some underdrain systems may require a gravel support bed at base level.  However, our specialist Durafilter Installation Service and related filter refurbishment processes will avoid the need for this and allows an all-glass system to be loaded for optimum efficiency and durability.
